There are more and more products that are offered to finish stair nose edges. one of my favorites are products that can slide right over an existing tread and give it a more substantial profile while also eliminating some modification to the stair treads. However, you can see here that there is significant risk to improper installation. You can watch my full video on stairs for more info!

@pghm123
The small return should have been trimmed then it would have set flush with the riser.
@ronaldwoofer5024
where to get stairnose??? i look on homedepot its not there…
@4KUniversalTV
The critical error was also to not match the existing bullnose. Rounded gets rounded. The square edge still has a breaking point below. Never put a loaded dolly on it.
@TwistedGorillaFab
Luxury laminate…Never heard of it!
@darcyhines1786
Don't buy that vynal plank flooring it's cheap. That stair nose will break off ither way. I did this my self. .garbage
@durtsquirrel1
What glue did you use in this process.
@BrianSmyth
Replace the entire staircase seriously? Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater bro
@bobbyf1626
the “entire staircase” is not going to have to be replaced
@MatSmithLondon
“The entire staircase is going to have to be replaced because it’s a huge safety hazard.” Okay – keep taking the pills. Alternatively you could just rip the crappy LVT out and think of something else. And if you MUST place vinyl tiles back over an oak stair then do it the same crappy way but nail and glue a bullnose back on?! Then you could even use a square section of wood and actually have your crappy square LVT bullnose fully supported! (Note – square bullnose is a HORRIBLE idea! Have you ever actually used a staircase with square bullnose with no shoes on? How stupid can you be?!)
@bryanp8010
Garage toxic product
@JohnpaulOleary
I am looking for them. I can’t find them anywhere.
@gabrielabrown2620
Where do I order these stair nose thread. I removed my carpet but I don’t want to modify the stair. Or do you do installs?
@black99rt
Plastic fake junk – epitome of luxury. 😂
@undeadb3ast12
Vinyl plank staircase 😂 landlord staircase
@Teshuvah-n27
America is a strange place.
@Real_PK
The stair nose return should also be contacting the riser for support per Floorets installation instructions.
@CertifiedMailSignatureRequired
ain't nothing luxury about that floor
@waynechen1983
look like he took out entire step board? no support under plank?
@DonnaF-yi4jx
Fake nosing is never a good choice.
@Candisa
"Luxury vinyl plank" <- There's your issue. Calling something "Luxury" doesn't make it any less crap. I guess it goes along well with the bunch of sticks, plastic siding, plasterboard and asphalt shingles you muricans call houses and pay big money for…
@shinemarine9710
Entire staircase? Errr just remove that one, nail on a strip of wood I pace of bull nose and apply new laminate step
@jesuslopez4113
Actually you need to cut 1/4" off the bullnose so the square edge and top inside nose butt up flush. Thise will still rock and crack sir
@1974charger123
So how do I correct this situation? Remove the old tread and replace the tread with new, or other put replacement tread over existing witch will effect the riser heights on the first and last step? Need advice as this is a new home that my flooring gut totally messed this up.
@FPL-LARD
the staircase doesnt need replacing unless you are trying to sell the customer something they dont need. You can easily add the nosing back onto the existing staircase and replicate the covering without replacing the entire staircase. Cockwombles
@nikfish1
Luxury vinyl. What an oxymoron.
@Voitcu
Theres no way that square fabricated bullnose is more sound than using the only bullnose that ever comes with the product over prepped (cut) stairnoses. Most people dont even take this extra precaution and just fill the space underneath with scrap plank. I dont see how this is also acceptable but it is. I always cut off my nosing and have the Bullnose flush with zero gap. There is still space in this video with this ridiculously cumbersome looking bullnose. I never heard or seen this before. This video actually blew my mind. Also how many times do you think those thin 45 degree joints can withstand being kicked walking up the stairs. This is just silly. Ive been doing plank since its inception and never did a product come with such an awkward Bullnose. Im still not sure if he glues the pieces together himself, which will take an eternity
@SP6X6
The mistake was cover a nice solid oak tread.What a waste
@SP6X6
Ive installed many a oak or other hardwood stairs ,male and hickory.
@deedebdoo
Wood is safer.
That is still hollow at the corner, which is the point that takes the direct weight.
Maybe you can fill it with something that hardens, like bondo.
@deedebdoo
Note to self: watch how I step on stairs made of a hollow plastic
@crobinsfly9979
Pure sloppy. He could have ripped and then fastened a replacement nose to the old stairs such that there was material under that laminate which could have supported it.
@isaiahwall3689
The critical error was vinyl!
@tokarukora7272
The critical error is doing that at all, instead of restoring the original wood stairs.
@1nkumZ
what would u do for the top step if the tread is higher than the flooring
@mikescatena5732
Can you remove the stair nose and just use the bullnose piece that comes with the LVP?
@sbrunner69
There was never an “underlying stair-nose piece”. The riser is full height. You’re being disingenuous.
@ryaaaaanwhat4072
What an idiot
