It’s not a Canadian model, it’s a model that Singapores Sovereign Wealth Fund copied from the success of Harvard and Yale models. Capiche!

People don’t realize that teaching is a very difficult job to do well. My wife worked really hard for over 30 years and is now retired. Near the end she was pretty burned out as every year seemed to get harder and harder. I on the other hand worked in a refinery for 40 plus years and with technology, it got easier and easier. Near the end of my career, I hired two people that quit teaching for higher pay and easier work. They earned their pensions.

Wait until you hear about CDPQ

After all, if you cant do, teach… Wait… No… If you cant do… Teach and then scam and then scold those who see your grift
@Burneypeenus69
1:46 yk what else is massive?
@DylanSargesson
1:14 No. If employers didn't have to contribute to pension funds, they wouldn't necessarily increase salaries by that same amount.

Anyone else watching this in April 2025 wondering if Canada made an extra-smart choice here given what is happening to the US right now?
@tehpanda64
this fund is definitely not going to randomly find a bunch of missing money in the next financial collapse

When they took over control of their own pension they only got 15%. The other 85% remained with the provincial government because it was a guaranteed market for their debt. By the late 90's, that 15% was worth as much as the other 85%. And so each contract negotiation would involve getting concessions for their pension, adding more and more % that they were allowed to control. It wasn't all good news. They lost $2B on Enron, for instance. But what you barely touched on is the KINDS of investments they make and why it's important. Their investments pay CASH dividends. Most hedge funds are based on equity growth, because of the 7:1 ratio of revenue to valuations means that equity goes up faster than revenue. But these funds have to actually pay out and they don't want to always be selling off their equity to pay their members. That is the real story, and why they buy utilities and toll roads and shopping malls. Because they have regular cash dividends.

In the UK employer contributions are extra money you don’t get if you’re not opted in to statutory pension lol
@SergioMach7
They also own the Irish national lottery, and since their buyout has resulted in a worse system. The odds keep rising, more numbers are added, and the money goes to them above community projects as advertised by Irish ad campaigns

Did you get permission from sam from jetlag to use that footage?

"They decided that instead of having less money, they'd prefer to have more money" Wow, why does nobody thinks of that ?
@stevewickens6660
Why are you showing US style, "green back" fake money? Canadian money , and bills in many other jurisdictions, like the EU are colourful.
@SPY-ce8qf
Is this why my teachers were so chill. None of them ever seemed stressed about anything other than dumbass high schoolers
@SuperStella1111
I remember when that prick Mike Harris tried to cut education funds. Our teachers were like: “We’re going on strike. We’re doing it for you. Tell your stupid parents we don’t want to hear any BS from them about it.” Love you, Miss Tyson.
