as a layman, i'm GUESSING that there MUST be scenario/s in which my purchase of a call option results in me realizing a financial loss on the whole stock/option deal.
else the options markets would have been wiped out many years ago by every trader/person buying contracts that "cannot lose money "!
maybe the call option i bought for $1.50 cannot be sold to 'Brian' or anyone else in their right mind because the stock price went on, (in the next day or two before i could sell it), to drop so far that it made the call options contract either near worthless AND/OR priced by the market at substantially lower than the $1.50 i paid.
i'm GUESSING, so please feel free to put me straight if this is incorrect. a link to explanation would be most welcome.

If I buy (Put or Call) and if the price of stock before exp date turns that Option is worthless and later if it turns good to me I still can exercise it, correct? When the option is worthless , it is not closed somehow automatically by the broker, correct? It's closed (expires) only by the exp date unless I dont exercise it, correct?
