Emotions don’t actually cause chronic pain or illness — but this is where many people get confused.
When using a brain-based or nervous-system approach to healing, it’s easy to assume:
👉 Feeling unpleasant emotions = more pain or symptoms.
That belief keeps people stuck.
Here’s the truth:
👉 Unpleasant emotions + resistance = chronic pain and illness.
It’s not sadness, anger, fear, or grief that create symptoms —
it’s fighting emotions, suppressing them, or being afraid of feeling them.
When emotions aren’t felt or expressed safely, the nervous system stays dysregulated.
And chronic nervous system dysregulation can trigger:
chronic pain
fatigue
fibromyalgia symptoms
dizziness
gut issues
Healing begins when we stop resisting emotions and start feeling them with safety.
And when we allow ourselves to express what we’ve been holding inside.
Feeling isn’t the problem.
Avoiding is.

I see its the only way to go throught…especially it’s a challenge for neurodivergent people who feel everything on a high level and may get triggered by small events. Establishing safetiy is the definitely the key for healing. Thank you for your work!
@RebeccaRespawn
That’s a huge clarity point, thank you. It’s an under rated thing to realize that difference – I’ve been working on it with having shingles now with the cPTSD.

@kda2222
How do you know you’re fighting them or feeling them?
@julieshenk7640
That's something never heard before. I do not avoid unpleasant emotions. However, no one is basically ok with my emotions. Yet, triggers come. However, I repressed so.much early in life. I feel better when unpleasant emotions come out due to layers of C-PTSD.

What about when you discover you were suppressing rage ? Learning to feel it is one thing but expressing outwardly seems socially unacceptable. Tips on rage?
@lubataskaeva2366
Well said! Thank you! 🙏

Hiya Tanner, can you please advise, how do you know if you're fighting your emotions or feeling them. I'm confused. TIA 🤗☘️
@natjanaverhoek7337
Thank you so much Tanner! Does this apply to fear as well? Or does experiencing fear send the message to my body that I am unsafe? Is there a safe way to experience or expressl fear?
@elenafrodin6707

So you only take on clients that live in Canada?

Thank you for your video. I suffer with burnout symptoms. My healing journey has brought me to realize that I am often “fighting” the part of me who feels exhausted. I realize that the same principle applies : fighting my feelings of tiredness is not helping me, especially as that is my default mode.
I often wonder : what emotion is coming in with my tiredness? I can’t seem to identify my emotions very easily…. Frustration? Sadness? Fear of not getting better? That’s my mind answering my question, my body is more reserved, and less forthcoming with answers 😉
